3 ways meditation can catapult your career

Anyone who has attended a yoga class recently has heard of the concept of meditation. It’s likely that in 2019 you will start to hear more about it in the workplace as well. According to a CDC report, the number of American adults who report having meditated rose from 4.1% in 2012 to 14.2% in 2018.

The benefits of meditation can help you in many areas of your life, but here are three ways the practice can benefit your career.

  • It can help you achieve what you really want. For the lucky ones among us, finding a job meant finding out what really makes us happy and making a career out of it. When this dream is not fulfilled right away, it can cause depression and complacency, and ultimately lead to the death of this dream. Meditation can not only help you practice self-awareness, but also acceptance.
  • It reduces stress. Work can be a huge stressor for most people, especially if there is a lot of money involved. When it comes to grinding, that stress can be a real obstacle. For example, an EveryDay Health survey found that 57% of people say they are crippled by stress. Mindfulness meditation, even practiced for just a few minutes a day, can help reduce stress and anxiety, as a 2013 study from Massachusetts General Hospital demonstrated.
  • He makes the creative juices flow. If you work in a creative field, you understand the concept of walking away and revisiting. Sometimes when you’re stuck on an idea that you can’t seem to figure out on your own, it’s best to walk around the block and come back. When you don’t have much time, however, focusing on your breath and meditating for a few minutes allows your brain to do a soft reset.

While this may still seem like an alien concept to some, the importance of meditation cannot be diminished. As I tell many entrepreneurs and job seekers that I coach, even if it sounds strange, what have you got to lose? I invite you to try it out today and see how you feel.
