Christmas tea dance

Come and watch the annual Christmas Tea Dance on Sunday November 20 from 3-6pm at the Brockagh Resource Center with music from The Wicklow Man and hosted by Laragh Active Retirement.

Laragh GAA

We would like to congratulate our men’s team who won the Junior A Football Championship Blessington 0-09 Laragh 1-10,

What an absolutely wonderful day. The team was managed by John Nolan and managed by Paddy Molloy and his selectors John Begley and Fergal Olohan.

Yoga class with Louise

Chair/seated yoga is suitable for those who find a regular yoga class too tiring, who are recovering from injury or illness, or who are generally less active and mobile. Classes from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Vinyasa Yoga: The practice will provide gentle stretching, improve strength and flexibility, and help students find balance and calm in everyday life. Classes from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Wicklow National Park

Unfortunately the weather conditions were not favorable at the beginning of October for our Star Gazing event and we had to reschedule to a later date to try and get clear night skies. Laragh Badminton Club

Badminton lessons take place at the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh with Monday evenings: Mondays 4th, 5th and 6th lessons from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. Thursdays 1st, 2nd and 3rd secondary 6.30-7.30pm and 4th, 5th, 6th secondary 7.30-8.30pm. Adults from 8:30 a.m.

A.A. meetings

Closed AA meetings are held at the Brockagh Resource Center at 8:30 p.m. every Monday evening.

Holistic self-defense course

A self-defense class led by Dara Clear, who has practiced martial arts for 30 years, will start at the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh on October 25, November 1, 8 and 15 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Practical and holistic approaches to self-protection will be taught throughout the 4 night course. No prior experience necessary. Book early as places are limited.

active retirement

Active Retirement Group meets every Tuesday from 10.45am to 12pm at the Brockagh Centre. So if you fancy a chat, a cup of tea, and some light exercise, dancing, and music, come on Tuesday mornings. Our monthly lunches are also back every 2nd Tuesday of the month.

We would like to encourage anyone who enjoys arts and crafts or any other hobby, maybe you have learned new skills and want a space to practice and share your skills with other members, come and join us rejoin. We are always welcoming new members to join our group. We are already busy planning upcoming activities, Christmas shopping and even our Christmas party.

cancer support group

The Rathdrum Cancer Support Group Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 19 at 8 p.m. at RDA Hall, Rathdrum.

School registrations

Applications for infants of boys at Rathdrum Boys’ National School and girls at Our Lady’s School Rathdrum for September 2023 will be accepted at the school during school hours of the week beginning October 10 – please bring your child’s PPS number and a copy of their birth certificate.

Junior Infants application for September 2023 will be accepted at St Savior’s Rathdrum National School from Monday 17th October to Monday 8th November. Any family who has completed a Notification of Intent to Apply form will receive an admissions form beginning the week of October 17. Lotto Avondale GAA

Tuesday, October 4 lotto draw results: No jackpot winners. the numbers drawn were 15, 16, 26 and 28. The next draw will take place on Tuesday, October 11. The jackpot is €1,100. Rathdrum Market

The Rathdrum Market Extravaganza will take place on Sunday November 13 at the Avondale GAA Sports Complex in Rathdrum. There will be craft stalls, a Christmas gift stall and a delicious food stall on the day.

Avon Motors Open Weekend

Key hyundai dealerships at Avonmotors Rathdrum Wicklow will have an open weekend on October 15 and 16, displaying the full range of Hyundai opening hours for both days, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday noon to 4 p.m.

Avondale Camo

Congratulations to the Avondale Under-16 camogie team for their great victory against Kilcoole last Wednesday night. They qualify for the semi-final next week – details to be confirmed

Cooley Christmas Tractor Race

The Cooley Christmas Tractor Race will be held on Sunday December 4th in memory of Katriona Rowan. Entrance to the event 25 €. All proceeds will go to the Wicklow Hospice Foundation. Arrival of tractors at Cooley Farm (A67VE42) from 3.30 p.m. for a 4 p.m. departure.

Benefit Concert

A fundraising concert will take place at St Savior Rathdrum Church on Friday 14th October at 7.30pm. The singers of the evening are James Kinsella and Deirdre Ni Chinneide, Liam Kinsella John Nolan, Claire Sherry, Dennis Nolan and John Brady. All proceeds will go to the Rathdrum Cancer Support Group in Rathdrum.

Condolences

Rathdrum Historical Society

it was poetry, music and history on Monday evening, October 3, at the monthly meeting of the Rathdrum Historical Society.

Siobhán Baker gave a very informative talk on the ladies’ land league and the deep involvement of the Parnell sisters Anna and Fannie Parnell. This was complemented by Marion McEvoy’s beautiful rendition of songs she composed about the Parnell sisters. Marion also recited a poem which had been written by Anna Parnell herself.

A lecture on Michael Davitt will be the subject of the November meeting organized by the Rathdrum Historical Society.

Congratulations and well done to all the athletes who competed in the Wicklow Intermediate Cross Country last Sunday at Avondale. Brilliant results for all with men’s and women’s teams winning team gold.

Beyond the Avondale Trees

Congratulations to the Beyond the Trees Avondale team who won Tourism and Hospitality Project of the Year at the Irish Building and Design Awards.
