Celebrity’s new ship goes beyond Edge Class
When Celebrity launched its new Edge class in late 2018 with Celebrity benefitthe line has set a new standard for premium cruise experiences among large ship options.
The 2,900 passenger ship was joined by her sister Celebrity Summit in 2021. Both of these sleek and modern ships feature a spacious and elegant design that gives cruise passengers a boutique hotel feel when traveling the high seas.
Now the third in class has joined the fleet of award-winning ships, and Celebrity Beyond enhanced the premium cruise experience at Celebrity with several new features. Celebrity Beyond is a little bigger and bolder, with a few design tweaks and extra spaces that we really liked on our recent cruise from her homeport of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Like her sister ships, Beyond offers innovative spaces and wonderful dining and entertainment options. The ship boasts iconic venues like Eden, an immersive, multi-purpose space that serves as a nightclub, theater, bar and restaurant – or a serene sanctuary during the day. Cruise passengers will also enjoy popular restaurants like Le Grand Bistro with French cuisine; Le Petit Chef culinary experience; fine-cut steakhouse; Rooftop Garden Grill, serving gourmet barbecue specialties; and Raw out of 5 for sushi and sashimi. These are just some of the 18 restaurants available on board.
Sure, Celebrity Beyond also sports the magic carpet. This orange cantilever bridge, roughly the size of a tennis court, hangs from the starboard side of Edge-class ships, serving as a curiosity for onlookers to spot ships in port or from other ships at sea.
This flexible space serves as a bar and restaurant for special Dinner on the Edge events, with a gourmet ‘chef’s choice’ menu. Seats always sell out for these dinner parties which offer incredible views while perched on the water and watching the sunset from deck 14. The magic carpet is also used for a tender platform when the vessel is in ports that require shore tender service. It is also used to expand the space at Raw on 5 for lunches with outdoor seating when positioned at Deck 5.
Celebrity Beyond is a larger ship than its two predecessors. It is 1,073 feet wide, making it 69 feet long, and can accommodate 3,260 passengers. Much of this new space is being used to expand the popular Grand Plaza and Sunset Bar areas on the ship.
Here’s what’s new and working to elevate Celebrity Beyond, making it my new favorite big cruise ship:
The Journey of Daniel Boulud
Celebrities team up with the famous Michelin-starred restaurateur to offer Le Voyage, an intimate dining experience that features gourmet dishes like Alaskan King Crab Salad with Avocado and Mango, Greek-Style Lamb Chop with Pesto with pistachios and Prime Black Angus filet mignon with black. truffle and hazelnut sauce.
Expanded Sunset Bar and rooftop garden
Sunset Bar at the top and back of the ship was fantastic on Edge and Apex. It’s definitely gone above and beyond on the new ship, with much more dedicated space – almost three times the size – in a spot that has always been an ideal gathering place with stunning views aft. Now the Sunset Bar is a multi-terraced, Moroccan-inspired space with a much larger bar, separate seating sections, and attractive day beds.
The Rooftop Garden is also extended. We loved that the fitness center staff even offered morning yoga classes on the nearby Rooftop Garden stage.
Retreat is improved
The ship-within-a-ship retreat on Celebrity Beyond offers an exclusive sun deck for guests in these suites. This inviting resort deck with pool, hot tubs and bar/restaurant occupies two decks and is 40% larger than the versions on Edge and Apex.
The Retreat also offers a private lounge, an exclusive Luminae restaurant and two-story Edge Villas with direct access to The Retreat Sun Deck.
The resort’s deck cabanas have been redesigned to provide more privacy for cruise passengers who reserve these exclusive spots for the day at the pool.
Grand Plaza Redesigned
Sprawling across Decks 3, 4 and 5, Grand Plaza is the center of the action in the middle of Celebrity Beyond. The space includes restaurants, bars and shops that surround the space. The plaza is now larger and the bustling Martini Bar has been repositioned in the center of the large deck 3 space.
This gives more cruisers a chance to fill up and have fun each day around the bar, which features flair shows by the talented bartenders as they mix up their favorite martini blends.
A touch of signature art
Each of these Edge-class ships has a distinctive sculpture on the complex’s deck. The most photographed place on Celebrity Beyond will certainly be the life-size white elephant balancing on the back of a man at the end of the pool. It is the work of French sculptor Fabien Merelle, based on his original work titled “Pentateuch”.
Beyond offers excellent high-speed internet, with a new partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink service.
