New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: Pradosh vrat is one of the important days for all Hindus as it is dedicated to Lord Shiva. However, when a Pradosh vrat falls on a Sunday, it is known as Ravi Pradosh Vrat. This day is observed on the Titihi Trayodashi of the lunar fortnight in both Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. This year, the auspicious day is observed on October 17th. On this day, devotees observe a one-day fast and perform puja after sunset to seek blessings from Lord Shiva and Goddess Gauri.

According to the Hindu text, it is auspicious to worship Lord Shiva when Trayodashi tithi and Pradosha overlap.

Ravi Pradosh Vrat 2021: Importance

It is one of the auspicious days to worship Lord Shiva because on that day he defeated the danavas and asuras which caused massive destruction. According to Hindu texts, Lord Shiva and his Mount Nandi protected the Devas from demons during the Pradosh Kaal. Therefore, devotees quickly observe during Pradosh Kaal to seek blessings from Lord Shiva for a trouble-free, joyful, peaceful and prosperous life.

Ravi Pradosh Vrat 2021: Puja Vidhi

– Take an early morning Pradosh bath and wear clean clothes.

– In the evening, visit the temple of Shiva for Abhishek.

– Abhishek is done by bathing Shivling with ghee, milk, honey, curds, sugar, gangajal, etc. while singing “om namah shivay”.

– Sing the Mahamrityunjay mantra, recite Shiv Chalisa and other mantras.

– Conclude the puja by performing aarti.
