First look inside Bannatyne’s luxury ‘spa express’ when it opens at Teesside Airport

A new luxury spa at Teesside International Airport has welcomed its first customers.

Bannatyne’s new “express spa” opened for the first time on Friday.

Passengers can be pampered before the flight with relaxing 15-30 minute treatments.

Former TV ‘dragon’ and Bannatyne Group chief executive Duncan Bannatyne OBE has invested £100,000 in the airside express spa, saying the airport’s ‘rebirth’ has been a ‘huge positive’ for the region.

Spa manager Michaela Hope, from Hartlepool, welcomed the first guests.

She said: “The response from passengers has been incredible. The first flight was Alicante and we spread the word and passengers tried it and loved it.

“We’ve done some skincare consultations and spoken to regular travelers and it’s great because it gives them a chance to pamper themselves before their vacation.”

Treatments include luxury massage chairs, LED masks, manicures, pedicures, and biotech treatments.

A partnership with Elemis means spa-goers can also shop for skincare products.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen celebrated the opening of the new spa.

He spoke to the staff and even tried out one of the new massage chairs.

He said: “I am delighted to see the Bannatyne Spa at Teesside Airport open for business.

“Welcoming Bannatyne’s to our airport shows how we are doing things a little differently to provide passengers with a truly memorable experience.

“It makes us one of the few airports in the UK to have a spa, which I’m sure will prove popular as our flights ramp up for a bigger and bigger 2022. better.”

Duncan previously said: “As a company headquartered in Darlington, it’s obvious that the revival of Teesside International Airport has been a huge benefit to the town and region.

“Passenger numbers are high and growing as new flights and destinations are announced and I am proud to invest in our first spa express and contribute in a small way to the vision the Mayor of Tees Valley has for the airport.”

The spa has an online reservation system but also offers walk-in visits depending on availability.

Karen Wilkinson, Bannatyne Group Chief Operating Officer, added: “We are delighted to welcome passengers to our new spa at Teesside International Airport.

“The airport looks fantastic and flights are being added to other destinations.

“It’s great that we can be part of its success and offer something new and welcome commercial and leisure passengers to be pampered before their flights.”
