Karen Flannery and Brendan Gibbons started Urban souls for the purpose of providing yoga and meditation, sound baths, breathing exercises and shamanic journeys to residents of Hudson County. Some classes even combine yoga with a social component afterwards, to foster connection with other lively and like-minded urban souls.

Karen and Brendan work closely with local charities so that the Urban Souls community can also give back. While each partner works on business operations, Brendan also teaches and Karen hosts special events. The two are often seen in the studio, keeping an eye on things while enjoying this flowery corner of the community they have cultivated.

“Watching the community become its own living organism has been one of the best things,” said Karen. Hoboken girl. “We see members becoming great friends, dating, even having children after meeting at the studio.”

Whether this means expanding or expanding our Hoboken space, our goal is to serve the community, expanding the work we do with schools, nonprofits and other organizations. We want to continue to move in this direction. “
