  • The T20I and ODI teams that India have assembled for their trip to New Zealand include Umran Malik.
  • A chance to dazzle will be given to the speedster after a disappointing performance on the Irish tour.
  • Young cricketers will have the chance to flourish in the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Visit from India to New Zealand: Umran Malik, India’s only pacer who can consistently drive over 150km/h, has been called up to the Indian team to start and show off his skills in the windy conditions of New Zealand. The pacemaker from Jammu grabbed everyone’s attention with his dizzying speed in the 2022 Indian Premier League season.

But soon after making his IPL 2022 debut, Malik disappeared from the international scene. Before being released, the 22-year-old only played three T20Is. Malik’s bowling performance fell short of expectations when he faced Ireland in a T20 international series in June. His save rate in three games was 12.44 and he only managed to grab two wickets.

He was expected to play a key role for India in the T20 World Cup 2022. But it seemed difficult for him to make the World Cup squad as he also had no been mentioned in the Asian Cup squad. However, Malik was expected to join India’s World Cup squad as a net bowler to help Indian batters acclimate to conditions in Australia. But the speedster was unable to travel to Australia to join the team due to a delay in obtaining Australian visas.
