Let Magdalena Roze’s Healthy PM Routine Inspire You For Better Sleep Hygiene

The picturesque life of Magdalena Roze in Byron Bay is the epitome of a healthy lifestyle. Here she gives us an overview of her nighttime routine.

Magdalena Roze is a meteorologist, journalist, presenter, mother and foodie (she is the co-founder of Oomite spread) but the local Byron Bay is also a big advocate for a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, so it makes sense that she is now an ambassador for NIVEA is naturally good range. Here, she shares with us how she makes her beauty and bedtime routine cleaner and greener.

Whatthe first thing you do to relax before bed?

Once I put the kids to bed, I savor this last part of the day for myself starting with a cup of chamomile tea to relax and cool off. Sometimes I’ll take a bath with Epsom salts and soothing essential oils like lavender and relax with a good book or magazine.

And the last thing you do before going to sleep?

There is a lovely verse that I heard once said in a meeting, so I asked him to write it down. I have this on my bedside table and read it to myself like a little mantra before bed. Sometimes I follow up with a short meditation to help me switch off or read a book that helps me relax and forget about the stresses of the day or to-do lists!

Tell us about your evening beauty routine …

My skin care routine is simple but I love it because I see it as a little self-care ritual that also helps me wash off throughout the day. I cleanse with NIVEA’s Naturally Good Micellar Facial Cleanser with Organic Aloe Vera which is great for removing makeup, sunscreen and impurities. My skin is always fresh and clean. I follow up with vitamin A serum and moisturizer. After a bath I’ll simply pat my body dry to allow the essential oils to soak in, or after a shower I’ll hydrate myself with NIVEA Naturally Good Oat and Nourishment Body Lotion which is formulated with up to ‘98% ingredients of natural origin, free from parabens, mineral oils and silicones, leaving my skin soft and hydrated.

Are you taking any supplements or sleeping pills?

Sometimes I take magnesium powder to help me fall asleep, either the Tri-Mag Supreme Night Powder which I buy from a practitioner, or the Bioceuticals Ultra Muscleze Night.

What are you sleeping on?

I’m very specific about my pillow because it’s the difference between getting a good night’s sleep or staying awake all night, I even travel with it! I envy my partner Daz who will literally sleep on anything! A healthy sleeping environment is important to us, so our linens are 100% linen and our mattress is from The Natural Bedding Company. It’s super comfortable, natural, and handcrafted right here in Australia. I also like to sleep with a silk eye mask to block out the light.

Whatis your stance on tech before bed?

We have a no-tech before bed policy and barely turn on the TV since we have kids (unless there’s a big show and it becomes our guilty pleasure for a week or two! ). As our phones and social networks are designed to keep us on them, we need to set some very clear boundaries to stay away. I think that not using a screen for at least an hour before bed makes a big difference to quality sleep. We like to take advantage of our evenings without children to make up for lost time and talk about projects.

Do you have a favorite snack or late night snack (if applicable)?

I usually stick with chamomile tea, but Daz likes tea and toast. I think it’s the English influence of Daz that stands out! If I fancy something sweet, I could make a soothing golden latte with it my turmeric home remedy paste or my hot chocolate kudzu pudding which happens to be vegan and gluten-free, but also contains “kudzu,” a type of Japanese cornstarch that not only thickens the pudding, but is believed to calm the nerves, making it a pretty soothing bedtime supper.

What time do you usually jump in bed?

I try to go to bed around 9 p.m. but it doesn’t always happen!

What are you doing if you cannot falling asleep or having trouble sleeping – Do you have a solution ?

If I’m having trouble sleeping, I’ll try a stretch for a few minutes to reset myself, put my thoughts in a journal, read a book (something pretty boring!), Or meditate. Otherwise, I just surrender to no-sleep and try not to fight it. I guess staying in bed with your eyes closed is still a form of rest and usually relaxing in that state ends up falling asleep.
