Parks and Rec offers mat and yoga class chat – Bemidji Pioneer

BEMIDJI – The City of Bemidji Parks and Recreation Department will be offering Chat from the Mat and Yoga Class, a three-week yoga series, to be held from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays March 16-30 at the Carnegie Library, 317 Fourth St. NW.

During this series, participants will learn the gunas (qualities of the physical and material world): tamas (inertia), rajas (movement) and sattva (balance).

According to a statement, during the course, students:

  • Learn which of the gunas is important in their life.
  • Find out how these qualities show up in our food, the gifts we give, how we seek happiness, and how we seek spiritual fulfillment.
  • Learn to detach yourself from the extremes of good and evil.
  • Learn to nurture a balanced state of being through introspection.

Participants will then enjoy a 60-minute flow class that combines active effort and steady postures to create a state of harmony in breath, body and mind, according to the release.
Classes are all levels and include pranayama and meditation. The cost for the three-week session is $47. Participants must bring their own yoga mat.
